CLIENT’S CHALLENGE

A prominent International Oil Company (IOC), an owner of a large producing oilfield in Iraq was planning to execute the second phase of its oilfield development at an accelerated pace. With other project owners competing for the same commodities, resources and manpower within the same region at the same time, it was important for the IOC to be ahead of the curve. 

 

OUR SOLUTION

In order to help the company understand market dynamics and status of other fields, we assembled a team of consultants who were subject matter experts who would understand competitor movements such as status, developments and delays of other oilfields on one hand and market information such as contractors and peak workload on the other hand.

To initiate work on our mandate, we worked together with the IOC and identified twelve other oil and gas fields in Iraq which would serve as a good comparison for the purpose of study. The consulting team conducted several interviews and meetings to understand the challenges which other project owners faced which included general & project specific challenges, contractor specific challenges and strong contractors in various disciplines. Contax Partners also provided deep dive analysis on each field including the various packages, budgets, scopes of work, contractors, planned production and estimated productions at the end of the agreed timeline.

Taking our recommendations into consideration, the IOC was able to develop a successful contracting strategy for its infrastructure package and bring in best practices for successful implementation of its projects. Our study helped the IOC deal with the contracting norms & procedures with respective authorities, come out with the right pricing for their packages and choose the right contractors, thereby ensuring a smooth and on time completion of its project.
