Orpic announces preferred bidders for Liwa Plastics Project 

Orpic EPC liwa plastics Oman projectOman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC) announced Tecnimont, GS E&C/Mitsui and Punj Loyd as the preferred bidders for three of the four packages under its Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) project – budgeted to be around USD 5.2bn. The three packages include the Natural Gas Extraction Unit in Fahud, the NGL pipeline between Fahud and Sohar and the three plastics plants in Sohar. Orpic will soon announce the preferred bidders for the largest package which includes the Steam Cracker and Associated Utilities in Sohar. Over the next two weeks, a detailed discussion with the preferred bidders will take place in order to finalize the contracts. Orpic plans to sign the final EPC contracts after receiving the Final Investment Decision on the project and finalizing the agreements. These finalizations are planned to take place by the end of the year.


Saudi Finance Ministry freezes Q4 2015 projects

Saudi q4 2015 projectsSources have reported that the ministry has told government departments not to contract any new projects and to freeze appointments and promotions in the fourth quarter of this year. This move on cutting costs takes place as the Kingdom faces the impact of the unsteady oil prices on its budgetary position. Saudi Arabia is facing a budget deficit of up to 20% of GDP this year, according to projections from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).



McNally Bharat Engineering /EMC Group wins Oman Bitumen Refinery contract

McNally Bharat Engineering India wins Sohar Oman ProjectIndia engineering firm, McNally Bharat Engineering Company (MBE) along with its Omani partner, EMC Group, have won a USD 315mn contract to build a bitumen refinery in Sohar, Oman. The contract, awarded by Sohar Bitumen, comprises of construction, detailed engineering, construction supervision and mechanical commissioning & supply in Oman. The bitumen refinery is part of the Sohar Refinery Improvement Project (SRIP), undertaken by Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic). Upon completion, the bitumen project is expected to have an installed capacity of more than 300,000 tons each year.
